Preventive culture, the best risk prevention tool


Preventive culture is fundamental in the prevention of occupational risks. It implies creating awareness, adopting new behaviors and a responsible attitude, as well as the creation of a collective attitude that can only be built through a long process of continuous learning, where each worker is able to change situations of risk and to be coherent in decisions and in the practice of their actions.

Safety culture is the set of values, habits and customs of workers that determine the behavior with respect to the management of Health and Safety in the work of an organization and that contribute to the prevention of accidents and diseases of occupational origin.

Training in occupational risks is one of the essential and priority elements in the preventive culture.

At Abengoa, the first and foremost are people and, therefore, our commitment to the Safety and Health of all those who are part of it or collaborate with us is maximum. Our goal is Zero Accidents and, in order to achieve it, we work continuously promoting an adequate preventive culture in all our activities and facilities.

Training in occupational risks is one of the essential and priority elements in the preventive culture to achieve an adequate level of awareness aligned with a good Safety and Health culture. Although, the real change will occur when we assume the need to know and respect the various preventive measures and protection against occupational risks at the individual level.

Furthermore, we cannot forget that the main preventive approach, as pointed out by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), “will only be beneficial if it receives the support of management. Strong and visible leadership and committed managers at all levels provide this approach with the right direction and content. ”

At Abengoa, we are aware of this and work in this direction through our training and continuous information, daily pre-task work talks (Tool Box Talk), security observation rounds, Walk & Talk, newsletter, safety alerts, security awards … and a long etcetera.

We intend to constantly and continuously promote a good preventive culture in our work centers. This allows us to foster a collaborative environment where the first and most important is and should be the safety and health of workers.
