European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2022 “Healthy workplaces: let’s lighten the load”

Share

As usual, the 43rd week of the year marks the European Week for Safety and Health at Work. The theme chosen for the period 2020-2022 is “Healthy workplaces: let’s lighten the load”, with the aim of contributing to the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD).

Work-related MSD are disorders suffered by body structures such as muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, nerves or bones, caused or aggravated mainly by work, and mainly affecting the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs, and to a lesser extent, the lower limbs.

Most MSD result from repeated exposure to more or less heavy loads over a long period of time, as well as repetitive hand and arm movements, or postural problems caused by sedentary work. The consequences often affect both health (physical pain, chronic illnesses, incapacity, etc.) and economic/occupational (direct/indirect economic costs).

There is no doubt that the solution to MSDs lies in prevention. With the right approach, workers can be protected on an individual level, while at the same time improving the competitiveness and productivity of companies, for example by reducing sick leave and, consequently, the costs to national health systems.

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has produced a series of short animated films to raise public awareness. Click here to see them.

At Abengoa we remain committed to the prevention of MSDs. Proof of this is our Corporate Health Plan 2022, where once again this issue has been very present in the various publications made during the current year.

We invite you to take a look at them:
